Olaias Squash League

How the league works

Divisions and rounds

Players are grouped in divisions: Division 1 has the strongest players and the last divisions are for beginners. Within a division, everyone plays everyone once. A round lasts about six weeks.

Matches

A match is best of 5 games. Each game is played to 11 points; from 10-10 it must be won by 2 points.

League points

  • Win: 3 points
  • Loss: 1 point. A player who retires during a match loses it.
  • Walkover (a player doesn't show up): 3 for the opponent, 0 for the absent player
  • Match not played by the end of the round: 0 for both

Ties on points

  1. The matches between the tied players. With two players, the winner of their match goes ahead. With three or more, a mini-table of only the matches between them decides; if that leaves some of them still level, the same rule is applied again to just those players.
  2. Game difference (games won − games lost) over all matches
  3. Point difference (points won − points lost) over all matches

Promotion and relegation

At the end of each round the top 2 of each division normally move up and the bottom 2 move down. The organisers have the final say, for example when players join or leave the league.
